NMurray Hill, Manhattan
RE: Yo Sushi on 2nd Ave

neighborhoodr-eastvillage:

From my friend Jessica on Facebook:

You know what’s not awesome? Ordering from Yo Sushi on 2nd Ave and getting my delivery and taking the container of soy sauce out in anticipation of some delicious sashimi and…finding mouse droppings on it. That’s right, there was mouse crap in my sushi bag.

It’s hilarious, yeah. Here’s an example of the craziness on the internet. Early one night, I had just been driving home from doing a few shows in the city. It was a Saturday night. I live out in Queens, I’m driving home. Murray Hill going up like 3rd Avenue, there’s a certain stretch of about five or six blocks where it looks like a frat party in Dallas in like the 1980s. It doesn’t look like New York. It’s just…tons of college and post-college kids just shitfaced, you know, at pretty cheesy bars and they’re just all over the streets, puking drunk. It’s like New Year’s Eve-level drunk, but it’s just a regular Saturday night. It’s just a gross neighborhood, it’s just kind of lame. It’s always been a pretty nondescript neighborhood, but it was never, like, annoying. It might have been, oh there’s not much to do here, people live here, it’s nice, it’s fine. But now there’s a high annoyance factor. Not just extremely drunk people, but extremely proud and seemingly self-entitled drunk people. I don’t know if they are or not, they might be. But anyways, they’re having a good time. It can be pretty annoying a neighborhood, so I just Twittered one time, ‘Murray Hill just got voted the most culture-less neighborhood of all time in New York City.’ And literally, the next day, there’s an article from a local online magazine for Murray Hill, and they’ve taken issue with me about how I ripped their neighborhood, and they responded on how all the cultural things that Murray Hill does have. And they also agreed with a lot of the things I did say. I just thought that the fact that they wrote a whole article defending themselves based on one Twitter that was a joke, not even meant to be taken seriously, shows how lame the neighborhood really is!

Co-signed. So glad to be out of Murray Hill. It is a good starter neighborhood for new grads, though, not going to lie.

Locksmith Scammer in area

Most people probably know that, but I ended up dropping $750 on a guy who had his number on a circular sticker that said 24-hr locksmith that was on our front door.  I’d post the number, but I figure that’s probably against the rules or some such.  ALWAYS ASK THE PRICE UP FRONT or stay at your buddy’s house and do it in the morning with a guy who has a shop. And never pay cash.  And don’t be an idiot.

Benches and trees and local events? oh yes!
If you havent already heard from your building staff, Community Board 6 is petitioning to make the service road on 2nd Avenue between 33rd and 30th street, in front of the movie theater and Borders (while its still there), a public plaza.  They note how this neighborhood has the least amount of open space in terms of parks and plazas in the city.  SO! If you live in the area, check with your doorman for a building petition or stop by the “service road” on Saturday to sign in person that you are in support of this change.  You can also go into the Borders to get some discounted books - they supposedly slashed their prices again today.
